Directly from stellar, sold out performances in Australia and Zimbabwe, South African Comedy icon Barry Hilton has a couple of sizzling performances is on home ground – in Cape Town.
Cape Town has a special place in Barry’s heart. He spent his high-school years in the Mother City (at Observatory Boys High) before qualifying and working there as an electrician for almost a decade. His daughter and grand-daughter live in Cape Town and the city has been a rich source of material for the charismatic comedian. He regularly fills the 4500-seater Grand West Arena with his solo performance and calls Cape Town airport his second home.
After what can only be described as one of the most successful careers in South African stand-up history, Barry Hilton received the Comics Choice Lifetime Achiever Award in 2013.
His universal appeal has created a global fan base and he is equally at home on the stages of Botswana, Swaziland, DRC, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Namibia as he is on the stages of Dubai, Las Vegas, UK, Europe, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
“Funny is funny,” says Barry, who recently relocated to picturesque Hermanus in the Western Cape. “Whether I’m working to an audience in Dubai, Zambia, New Zealand or Las Vegas, we laugh together at everyday things that everyone can relate to – regardless of their age or nationality.” His signature physical impressions and facial expressions are as funny as his show content and leave audience members across the globe rolling in the aisles.
“I just see things differently,” says Barry. “It’s not even as if I’m on the lookout for new material, it literally just jumps out at me. Every day. All day. Travelling so extensively gives me heaps of new material and makes me focus on making my material accessible to as many people as possible,” says Barry.
His new show, Evolver, sees him at his vibrant best showcasing brand new material – evidence of his unique ability to adapt, reinvent and evolve with the times. Be sure to catch a Barry Hilton comedy show in Cape Town:
