Comedy Cruising in Hermanus

Hermanus Comedy Club features Barry Hilton, Ambrose Uren, Kurt Schoonraad and Dave Levinsohn

Whales, wine and art are the top activities to entertain and enthrall tourists to Hermanus. And now, there is another – COMEDY. The monthly comedy nights hosted by Barry Hilton have become so popular that they are sold out weeks in advance.

Each month a stellar line-up of three hilarious comedians travel from Cape Town to thrill locals. Word has spread like wildfire and now audience members also travel from as far afield as Cape Town, Gaansbaai, Standford and Kleinmond to enjoy a night of non-stop laughter.

“The club’s reputation is growing and comedians are as excited as audience members to be attending. Acts are contacting us and clambering to be included on the bill,” says Barry. “This month, Dave Levinsohn is flying in from Johannesburg to join Cape Town based comedians Kurt Schoonraad and Ambrose Uren on stage in Hermanus.”

Kurt Schoonraad is one of South Africa’s most recognized stand-up comedians. He’s been performing his one-man show across the country to huge applause for almost two decades.   You might recognize him as the quirky accidental tourist on the hit TV series “Going Nowhere Slowly”. He is one of SA’s favourite TV personalities and has starred in various big screen productions. Kurt pioneered Cape Town’s only dedicated international stand-up comedy venue – the Cape Town Comedy Club in the V&A Waterfront.

Dave Levinsohn’s comedy style has been described as ‘off the wall’ and off the cuff. He has performed at all the best comedy festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Dave has appeared in many TV commercials and co-presented the first series of SABC 3’s “Going Nowhere Slowly”. On the comedy stage his material darts into more lateral territory, with his “slightly-weird-guy-next-door” approach to every subject under the sun; he’s odd, without being offensive.

Tipped to be a huge success by headliner comedians, Ambrose Uren is this month’s open mic. He is a popular performer at Cape Town’s comedy venues and is the official host of the Cape Flats Comedy Jam.
